Unforgettable Experiences and Christ’s Coming

And Mary said: "My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has been mindful of the humble state of his servant. From now on all generations will call me blessed, for the Mighty One has done great things for me--holy is his name." Luke 1:46-49
Listening to the excited words of Mary, you cannot tell me that this was not one of the most unforgettable experiences in her life. Many things may have happened to her during the few years before she became pregnant with Jesus, but I do not think anything compared with the height of exhilaration and honor she experienced from this event. In fact she said as much herself; “generations will call me blessed.” And she acknowledges that it was not that she had been so perfect or faithful, but “the Mighty One has done great things for me, for he has been mindful of the humble state of his servant.”I know that for Mary, this was an unforgettable experience. An experience that no doubt remained etched in her memory until her dying day.
If we contemplate on the journey we have traveled thus far, I am sure we can think of a few unforgettable experiences. Some may have been good, some bad, but we will never forget them. They divide our lives. Periodically, we reflect on those experiences - something that happened to us that changed us, altered our life agenda, became turning points and we will never forget.
What about some of the experiences we have had in our lives in which God delivered us. Two men walking down the street, one man shot and killed and the other man saved, unforgettable. It happens all the time. Four passengers riding in an automobile are in an accident, the car is totaled, three killed and one walk away without a scratch, unforgettable. The Titanic sinks, 1,517 dies and 706 survive, unforgettable. Think about planes crashes and people who have lived to tell about it, unforgettable. We cannot go through experiences like these and remain the same.
I am not referring to experiences we have that has no affect on us. We have many experiences that are more or less regular or general. But occasionally God lets a special experience into our life. Every now and then, we face an "exception to the rule" kind of experience. I do not care how cool we are, how stony our heart or how tough we think we are. When the special experience comes our way, it will shake the very foundation on which we stand.
Many of us have had some of those special experiences. I remember the time when during a horrible snowstorm I was driving back home to Michigan from seminary in Ohio and fell asleep at the wheel. God woke me up just in time to prevent an accident. I still shudder to think about "what might have been." As calm as I normally am, something balled up on the inside of me and I had to tap into God’s breath reservoir. I praised God and I still praise Him. This was for me, an unforgettable experience.
It was unforgettable not only because God awakened me to avoid the danger that lied ahead, but also because I became more acutely aware of the gift of “breath.” The Psalmist gets to the crux of the matter. He describes the greatness of God and how all things are made and given by Him. Near the end of this psalm he says, “when you take away their breath, they die and return to the dust.” God gives us breath and He takes it away. Think about it. All God has to do is hold the breath and we return to the dust. What a mighty God He is and how faithful He is. When I got up this morning, it was only because God supplied some breath. Even as I write this hub, He is feeding me breath. Let us not take our breath for granted.
On many occasions, God has to let us experience certain crisis to get our attention. Man has a proclivity to think we have it made, that we have arrived, to take His blessings for granted and need to be reminded that we are mortals, we are finite, and we are decaying flesh and blood. We are not iron or steel and we are not superman or superwoman.
So, there are some experiences that are unforgettable. That is why Mary and Elizabeth are beside themselves with joy. It was a celebration of the coming Lord. God had done something in a powerful way. It was an unforgettable experience and her song of praise was a testimony.
The testimony today is that the Lord is coming again. And, something
tells me it is going to be an unforgettable experience. Come, Lord Jesus, Come.
Jesus is Coming Again

Rev Lady, Wonderful hub! I agree! One can only imagine how Mary must have felt! You can sense her exhilaration and excitement! I am sure that it was extraordinary! Giving birth to a child is an everyday miracle that is quite often taken for granted...
She is a wonderful example of what one has to do when they know that the Lord has choosen them to do something! I did not hear her complain? Imagine the FAITH & TRUST the LORD instilled in her! She carried HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON!!!
This is indeed a wonderful and timely MESSAGE! I pray others get excited and this draws them closer to the Lord!
"Oh Come Let Us Adore Him!" For who He is and ALL that He has done for us! We can do "ALL things through Jesus Christ!"
Thank You for sharing, Love & Blessings!
Well done RevLady. As usual you have written an excellent hub. Thank you for reminding us to not take God's blessings for granted. Indeed they are too many to mention and so we do tend to forget them.
By the way, I wondered which state you lived at that had snow, now I know it was Michigan. You must have had many snow storms while you were there. In any case I am so glad that God spared your life. One reason, is so that I could meet you through hubpages and read your fantastic hubs. You are indeed a blessing from God.
RevLady,
Another wonderful and inspiring hub.
Many times we forget that it is through those unforgettable experiences that God teaches us to trust him. And to say Jesus is coming BACK AGAIN, say it again girl!!!
Rev Lady, Thank you for sharing your testimony as well! How interesting that it was on your way from Seminary to return home that you would fall asleep at the wheel... The Lord at that very moment allowed you to see that "He" has your life in his hands... There is no better place to be!
How like the Lord to reassure you that He will "never leave nor forsake you!" Thank you for sharing that unforgettable experience as well! Again Wonderful hub! Blessings!
I have many great experiences, then I have not so great experiences b ut by his grace I came through them all. I often think whay would it have been like to be back in Jesus time, where we see feel and touch him, the people in the biblical days was so blessed and did have the sense to know it. I would have love to see him perform miracle and see him ,part the red sea. The people back then, had walking ,living God with them and didn't appreciate him. all we have is the word of God, and for some us, that the greatest thing we could have in our lives. a great and blessed hub. thank you RevLady for sharing it.Godspeed. creativeone59
Amen! I thought about those roads in Michigan, as I also traveled one night from Lansing to Oscoda (about 5 hours). The road was dark and I kept seeing the signs "Deer Crossing", but of course kind of ignored them. There's not good street lighting, as you know. When I got to Tawas, just 20 miles from Oscoda, I first "heard" God's voice in my spirit, "Slow down and look for the deer". I battled with this as though it was just a thought, but it kept coming ~ over and over again. I finally nearly stopped in the road, as no one was behind me. Then, I said, "OK, Lord; if this is You, SHOW me the DEER!" And, sure enough, at the end of my headlights was a large doe!! Who knows what I was spared that night, but I rejoice that God spoke and I heard, and I still try to obey a little faster now!! God bless you, sister!
Living in the fast lane years ago a few near death experiences taught me how to brag about my ability to cheat death. It created a false sense of well being, always taking risks. It was God that taught me in 2000 that it was Him the entire time that spared me, no me, not luck.
Jer 29:11-13 ring so true in my ears today knowing that He has a plan for me...what a blessing that is...what a blessing.
Many Hugs
RevLady, my Sister in Christ, we are blessed, amen!!
Brother Quill, Jer 29:11-13 is a promise I hang onto! One of my very favorite passages!! Praise God!!
This is indeed a great hub. Thank you for sharing this wonderful insight. Merry Christmas RevLady to you and your family. Maranatha too.
Good job. God does allow events is our lives to get our attention. Sometimes hard stuff. I am wondering, what seminary did you attend in Ohio?
RevLady, the world is filled with glorious tales of the awesome power the Lord still working all around us. I still remain amazed to this day of the child who was found safe in a bathtub after a tornado. I provided a safe link for anyone wanting to refresh their memory. The ways of the Lord are indeed mysterious.

RevLady, it's a delight to get to know you better, by reading your insightful hubs and your comments to your respondants! I really like that picture, I've seen it before many years ago. If you have ever watched the opening sceen of ABC's Flash Forward, their version reminds me of that older picture of the Coming of the Lord!
Thank you again and Merry Christmas!!!
Good morning Reverend Lady,
I have many memories where God has saved me, enough that I will never forget because the memories still cause me to shudder with fear. For the rest of my life I want to always look up and say "thank you, Lord, because you saved ME!"
My father often admonished his children, "Never forget what your eyes have seen the Lord doing for you. Never forget...always give thanks and praise Him!"
God bless you today and always, RevLady!
Much love to you today, and BIG hugs,
VKA
Dear Rev Lady : What a wonderful hub that is so good. I believe your right. It does seem that God does not like it when blessings are taken for granted. We should always be grateful for the wonders God gives us. God Bless You Dear Heart.
